Tate is de instelling (lees vier kunstgalerijen) die de nationale collectie (moderne) kunst huisvest. Niet als overheidsinstelling maar wel vooral gesponsord door het Britse ministerie voor Cultuur, Media en Sport. De naam TATE wordt ook gebruikt als handelsnaam voor de rechtspersoon namens “The Board of Trustees of the Tate Gallery“.
